![]() Parkway Drive have done something with this album that most bands have failed to do in past times. An album such as “Reverence” coming out of Parkway Drive’s impressive lifespan is not only admirable and praiseworthy but also an extremely exciting time for the band and their musical and creative landscape. This album is a phenomenal effort from these Australian legends and sees the band really push the boundaries out for themselves. So, in conclusion is “Reverence” the best album that Parkway Way have released? The answer is a definite yes. A very impactful way to conclude Reverence. ![]() During the final moments of the track all you can hear is his vocals which sound extremely emotional whilst he reflects on the topic of death and losing a close friend. During this track, there are no hard or heavy guitars what so ever and McCall’s great singing voice is very prominent throughout. The final track “The Colour of Leaving couldn’t round this album up more perfectly. However, as the end of the track approaches you can also hear an element of their older influences with heavy riffs and rough guitars. “In Blood” shows how Parkway Drive have developed a more melodic sound. One of the greats things about this track is that the band blend their new sound with orchestral sections and it proves just how diverse they have become with this new release. ![]() The biggest highlight on Reverence is the following track “Shadow Boxing”. And then, another transition begins and the band blasts into the opening riff of “The Void” which can be stylistically compared to “Prey”.ĭuring the sixth track “I Hope You Rot” there is the Latin text “ l ibera nos“, also known as “ save us” however it’s unclear where the interest in Latin comes from as it’s the time the band have included it in their music. Like a type of transition, yet still considered as a separate track with rough narrator vocals layered over a simple electronic rhythm. The following track “Cemetery Bloom” explores a completely new and experimental area for the band. Melodic guitar riffs are also very prominent on these two tracks which may sound a little bit out of place for a band like Parkway Drive but it does fit perfectly with the direction that the band are going in. There’s more gritty vocals provided by Winston McCall together with some gang vocals thrown into the mix rather than the usual breakdowns. ![]() The sheer amount of power carries on into the following two tracks “Prey” and “Absolute Power”. With a myriad of destructive riffs and lyrics about killing gods, this track is the musical equivalent of the apocalypse blasting out the speakers. This track presents a reinforced fury and proves that the band are still connected to their roots. It’s an extremely heavy opener that makes an extreme impact from the very start. Reverence explodes into action with “Wishing Wells” which is the best track the band have ever opened an album up with. However, their latest release is a complete game changer for the band and has placed them even higher amongst the global Metal elite. It could be considered that its often difficult to break boundaries when its yourself that sets the boundaries in the first place but Parkway Drive did that with “Ire”. “Ire” was a very different album compared to the band’s previous releases. Their 2015 release “Ire” saw the band change their stance and they created a very adventurous and culminating release that surprised their core fan base but all for the right reasons. ![]() The band also have an admirable dedication to touring the globe and have shared stages with Killswitch Engage, Bring Me The Horizon, Emmure, The Acacia Strain, Stick To Your Guns, The Devil Wears Prada, A Day To Remember and many more. Since they released their first full length album “Killing With a Smile” thirteen years ago the band have grown from strength to strength and have become one of the most unique bands of the genre. Parkway Drive have been considered to be the best “Metalcore” on the planet for a considerable time now.
